Goal: 58 kg of receipts (the equivalent of one whole tree!)

Shoeboxed.com is inviting you to recycle receipts with them to honor Earth Day. They'll be accepting receipts through 4.29.2008, when they will drive to the recycling plant in an earth friendly Prius, to recycle all the old receipts.

If you help them achieve their goal to recycle a tree's worth of receipts, they'll even scan all your receipts and load them into your free Shoeboxed account for you before recycling them. Just include your name, email address, and phone number in an envelope with your receipts.

Please send all receipts to:

Hey everyone,

We can't wait to start recycling receipts tomorrow! We'll be scanning receipts postmarked by 4.29.2008. Don't miss this opportunity to digitize receipts for free while doing your part for the earth!

Sincerely,

Julia Sullivan
Earth Day Coordinator

and

The Shoeboxed Team

This is a great idea in theory but I don't think anyone has sincerely thought this through. I'm all for minimizing paper use, but by asking people to mail in there receipts just adds to the mess. Think of all the fuel and energy used to transport said receipts just so Shoeboxed can recycle them. Makes no sense to me. Why not just encourage people to recycle themselves and really do some good?

Hi Anonymous!

Ya got us on a technicality! But this is part of a much longer-term strategy that not only has very positive effects in and of itself, but will also help us reduce paper waste in the future!!

The envelope and all the receipts you send in will be recycled, so they'll be going back into the cycle! We're also getting a lot of local support, so a lot of people here in Durham and Raleigh are planning on stopping by tomorrow, so they don't have to mail anything in. Supporting Shoeboxed.com now also helps us get us closer to the day when paper receipts are eliminated. In this digital world, we hope to one day get rid of this unnecessary paper record. With receipts currently requiring that 3,7400,000 trees be killed every year, we hope you can support us in any way you can!

Thanks!
